Core advantages of metal models: high frame strength, resistance to deformation, moisture resistance, suitable for high-frequency use in studios; Shortcomings include excessive weight and weak shock absorption. When choosing, the key factors to consider include structural safety, spring system, accessory workmanship, and size compatibility.
1、 Main framework (top priority)
- Material and wall thickness of pipes
Prioritize thick cold-rolled steel pipes, with a recommended wall thickness of ≥ 2.0mm; thin pipes (1.2-1.5mm) are prone to shaking and weld cracking due to long-term high-frequency trampling.
Differentiation: Ordinary spray paint pipe vs electrostatic spray. Electrostatic spray coating has strong adhesion, is wear-resistant and rust proof, and is not easy to peel or rust in sweaty and humid environments; Spray painted products are prone to scratches, peeling, and rusting. - Structural form
Integrated bending frame>assembled screw splicing version. The screws of the assembled model are prone to loosening after long-term use, so they need to be repeatedly tightened before each training session. - Load bearing parameters
For household use, it is recommended to have a rated load capacity of ≥ 120kg; for commercial use in yoga studios, it is recommended to have a rated load capacity of ≥ 150kg. It is important to refer to the manufacturer’s markings for the rated load capacity, rather than just advertising. - Stability
Look at the bottom anti slip foot pad: thickened rubber foot pad to prevent displacement and scratching of the ground during training; Metal floor mats come into direct contact with the floor, making loud noise and slipping.
2、 Spring system (determines training feel)
The core of a Pilates chair is the spring, and the difference in feel mainly comes from here:
- Spring material: High quality stainless steel spring, rust proof, long fatigue life; Poor quality springs are prone to elastic decay and breakage.
- Spring configuration combination
Standard configuration: Three types of elastic springs: light, medium, and heavy, which can be mounted separately or in combination to meet rehabilitation, shaping, and advanced training needs.
For entry-level household use: 3 springs are sufficient; Commercial recommendation 4: Spring with a larger resistance adjustment range. - Hook/buckle structure
The spring hanging point must have thickened hanging ears, and the buckle should have anti detachment limit to prevent the spring from flying and injuring people during training (the rebound impact force of metal chairs is greater).
3、 Pedals, slides, and rails
- Guide rail: Silent guide rail takes priority and is divided into circular tube guide rail and square rail. Square track guidance is better and less prone to deviation; There should be wear-resistant bushings inside the slide rail to reduce friction noise. Poor quality models have lagging and loud abnormal noises.
- Pedal panel
Board surface substrate: multi-layer solid wood board/high-density board, surface anti slip pad (TPE anti slip pad is preferred). The anti slip pad should be replaceable; Cheap thin rubber pads are prone to peeling and slipping.
The edge of the pedal should be polished smooth without sharp edges to avoid collision. - Limit buffer
Both ends of the pedal must have rubber buffer blocks! Metal to metal hard impact, loud noise, and loosening of frame screws, without buffering blocks is a significant reduction in configuration.
4、 Accessories and Details
-Armrest: Reinforced metal armrest, grip and anti slip, armrest welded firmly; Many low-priced armrests are thin and shake when applied with force.
-Shoulder/cushion: high-density sponge, wrapped in PU wear-resistant leather for easy wiping and disinfection (key focus of the studio); Sponge is too soft and poorly supported, too hard and uncomfortable.
-Foot strap/strap: thickened webbing+metal adjustable buckle, firm and non slip.
-Storage requirements: If the home space is small, prioritize metal models with folding structures; Pay attention to the thickness of the folding hinge and the lock buckle, which must have a safety lock.
5、 Size, noise and site adaptation
-Conventional external dimensions reference: approximately 110-130cm in length, 40-50 cm in width, and 40-45cm in height. Reserve space for placement before purchasing, and also allow for movement when sliding the pedals forward and backward.
-Noise: Metal structures naturally produce higher noise levels than solid wood models; Priority should be given to those with silent bushings and a complete set of cushioning adhesive, which will have less impact on the downstairs neighbors.
-Weight: Metal models generally weigh 70-110kg and are difficult to transport. Please confirm if the entrance door and elevator can pass through and ask the merchant if they can provide delivery and installation.
6、 After sales and quality inspection
- Confirm if installation tools and instructions are included; Priority should be given to businesses that can provide replacement parts (springs, anti slip pads, cushioning adhesive) for commercial scenarios.
- Quality assurance: Framework warranty period, spring vulnerable parts warranty. Springs are consumables, and many merchants only provide short-term warranty.
- Prioritize choosing products from factories with experience in Pilates equipment production, and do not seek customized products from hardware workshops. Improper mechanical angles can easily lead to injury.
