The metal frame has stronger rigidity and greater explosive spring force. Compared to the wooden version, there is a higher risk of impact and injury when it loses control, and the taboos are stricter.
1、 Absolutely prohibited from use/requires medical permission to practice
- Acute phase injuries: Acute lumbar sprain, acute disc herniation, rotator cuff tear, ligament strain, joint dislocation, and unhealed fractures. Do not use the machine.
- Serious bone and joint problems: severe osteoporosis (highly prone to compression fractures), severe knee and hip arthritis, spinal spondylolisthesis, and severe scoliosis have not been evaluated.
- Cardiovascular problems: unstable hypertension, recent myocardial infarction, severe arrhythmia, failure to self train; Double evaluation by doctors and rehabilitation therapists is required.
- Pregnancy: High risk pregnancies such as mid to late pregnancy, history of miscarriage/premature birth, and placenta previa are prohibited from self practicing; The Pilates chair during pregnancy must be evaluated by a specialized maternity teacher.
- Early postoperative period: Within 3 months of spinal, joint, and abdominal surgery, do not use without the consent of the attending physician and rehabilitation specialist.
- Dizziness, epilepsy, and severe vestibular dysfunction: Rapid sliding of chair pedals and spring rebound can easily trigger dizziness and falls.
2、 Training action taboos (cannot be performed on the machine)
- Do not forcefully resist the resistance of the spring: Do not hold your breath and forcefully apply force to the hardtop spring. Metal chair springs have high elasticity and are prone to instantly strain your waist, back, shoulders, and neck.
- Prohibit joint locking: If the knee and elbow are fully extended and locked with force, it will cause a huge impact on the joints.
- It is prohibited to rebound and release the pedal: the handle and pedal must be firmly grasped and pressed; Do not release your foot and let the pedal bounce back, as there is a high risk of getting caught in the metal bracket and hitting your leg.
- Prohibit excessive twisting and lumbar hyperextension stacking: Do not forcefully twist the waist or collapse the top ribs under pedal load.
- Prohibit jumping and bouncing with heavy loads: Pilates chairs are not jumping equipment, jumping can impact the lumbar spine and damage the structure of the equipment.
- It is forbidden to suddenly release resistance with one leg: if the spring is released too quickly on one side, the pelvis may roll over and the waist may compensate for sprains.
3、 Taboos on the use of the equipment itself
- Do not use when screws are loose, the frame is shaking, springs are aging and cracking, or buckles fail: metal chair welds and fixing bolts are very dangerous once they fail.
- Do not overload: strictly follow the weight bearing markings on the equipment, and do not have multiple people on the machine at the same time.
- Do not sweat barefoot on smooth pedals during training: Metal pedal anti slip pads are prone to slipping and falling when worn.
- Do not modify springs or extend levers on your own: it will change the mechanical structure and significantly increase the risk of loss of control.
4、 Taboos on crowd behavior
- Not practicing on the computer after drinking alcohol, taking sedatives, or experiencing extreme physical fatigue can lead to a decrease in proprioception and increased risk of injury.
- Beginners are prohibited from directly using high resistance springs and do not imitate high-level video movements. It is recommended to familiarize oneself with the pedal rebound rhythm under the supervision of a coach.
- Pain Red Line: If there is sharp pain or radiating numbness (spreading to the legs or arms) during training, stop immediately and do not insist on “soreness is effective”.
